Never heard of "hosel rockets"

The golfers from the Universities of Warwick and Manchester were bantering back and forth on facebook. The term "hosel rockets" was mentioned several times and none of us Ingolstadtians knew what that meant.

"About's" golf dictionary has a neat golf slang collection. Apparently a hosel rocket
... is a slang term for a shank. And a shank is a shot in which the point of contact between the golf ball and the golf club is the club's hosel.

How are we supposed to know that? We don't hold more SM-championship titles than the two teams combined for no reason...

A 'hosel rocket' is a skilful shot of precision devised and used by James Pearson of University of Manchester fame, which will only be used when a number of orthodox shots have already been played, thereby adding to, or retracting from, his already average to good cumulative score
